Was thinking today about accents.
An accent is how we use our body. Specifically, it's how we use the muscles in and around our mouth and vocal chords.
Accents aren't genetic. They're how we use our body and our mind, not how our body and mind really are. They're passed down from and influenced by the people we're around. Of course, we can change our accent if we want to. I can talk like the Queen of England. It's not easy, but I can do it. And with practice I get better, more consistent.
What if attitudes are just like accents? That would mean attitudes aren't genetic. It would mean attitudes are how we use our mind and our body, not how our mind and our body really are. It would mean attitudes are passed down from and influenced by the people we're around. And it would mean we could change our attitude in a moment if we wanted to do an impression of a happy-go-lucky motivated cheesball who always sees the silver lining, for example.
